Water and Sanitation for Low Income Communities Phase II Project (WSLIC II)
Project BackgroundAustralia is working with the Indonesian Ministry of Health and the World Bank to provide water and sanitation to low-income communities. WSLIC II is a six-year, US$106 million project funded through grant assistance from Australia, the IDA, the Indonesian Government and the beneficiaries themselves. Australia's contribution is US$6.5 million, which will be administered by the World Bank through a co-financing arrangement. The Indonesian Ministry of Health is responsible for executing the project. Project DescriptionThis project aims to improve the health status, productivity and quality of life of poor communities in under-served rural villages in the project provinces of West and East Java, West Nusa Tenggara, West and South Sumatra, and Bangka Belitung and South Sulawesi. The project will improve the health behaviour and health services related to water borne diseases of the communities; provide safe, adequate, cost-effective, and easily accessible water supply and sanitation services and ensure sustainability and effectiveness through community participation. The Indonesian Ministry of Health is responsible for implementing the project. Australia's contribution is being used to provide technical assistance; service contracts including for the preparation of school and community health materials and provincial and district media packages; and to conduct special studies on issues such as project impact studies, community facilitation team training, technical audits and policy studies.
