Women's Health and Family Welfare Project
Project Background:This is the second phase of the Women’s Health and Family Planning Project, which operated from July 1995 to October 1998. The second phase has been renamed the Women’s Health and Family Welfare Project. By the end of this phase, the project will have covered all districts of West Nusa Tenggara and eight districts of East Nusa Tenggara. An inception stage of this A$27.8 million project commenced in January 2000 and concluded in June 2001, followed by an interim stage from July 2001 to April 2002 in which limited activities were undertaken. Implementation phase commenced in July 2002 and will run until April 2006. Description of Goals/Objectives:The goal of the project is to contribute to improved health of women and children in the provinces of East and West Nusa Tenggara. This phase of the project aims to enable Government of Indonesia agencies and the local community to work together in partnership to identify and respond to problems of maternal and neonatal health and underlying gender issues. This approach builds on the approach of Phase I which focused on improvements in the quality and coverage of services, but has increased emphasis on capacity building and on community participation. The project has four interrelated components:
The GOI counterparts are the Ministry of Health (DepKes) and the National Family Planning Coordinating Board (BKKBN). The provincial and district counterparts are: Bappeda (Regional Planning & Development Board), Dinas Kesehatan (Provincial & District Health Services), Kanwil BKKBN (Regional Office of BKKBN) and BPM/BPMD (Provincial & District Community Development Agency).
