Australian Volunteers International (AVI)Australian Volunteers International in Indonesia works to build links and increase cooperation between Australians and people living in developing communities. An independent, non-profit organisation, it conducts a variety of people-centered development activities across a wide range of sectors, in some 50 countries throughout Asia, Africa, the Pacific and Latin America, as well as in remote Aboroginal communities within Australia. More than 5000 Australians have now been provided with the opportunity to help build better world by living and working with developing communities as Australian Volunteers. Australian volunteers contribute their professional skills, knowledge and experience to support a wide range of development initiatives aimed at bringing social, cultural and economic benefits to communities. Australian Volunteers are skilled, professional, dedicated and commited people who make an important contribution to Australia's international development activities and, on return to Australia, play a significant role in educating our own community about the world around us. Australian Volunteers International also provides project development, management and evaluation expertise for a diverse range of cooperative development projects. In recent years, Australian Volunteers International also has developed a specialist cross-cultural recruitment service and intercultural briefing service. In Indonesia, there are approximately 20 Australian volunteers working in areas as diverse as English language training, sanitation and communication, HIV/AIDS education program and other fields throughout the country.
