Australia and Indonesia have been development
partners for many years, with a strong relationship stretching back to
the 1950s. Through AusAID, the Australian Government's overseas aid program
in Indonesia will provide an estimated A$462 million (IDR 3.6 trillion)
in Official Development Assistance (ODA) in 2008-09.
This assistance expands Australia's support
in key sectors such as infrastructure, health, education and governance.
It puts Australia well on track to spend an estimated A$2 billion on development
in Indonesia in the five years to 2010.
Australia is committed to an ongoing partnership
with Indonesia to continue rebuilding efforts, after the December 2004
Indian Ocean tsunami and to address longer term development challenges.
Australia will continue to focus on strengthening
economic and financial management, building democratic institutions, promoting
stability and security, and improving the quality of service delivery
in Indonesia, particularly in the poorer eastern provinces. |
