Project Background

The Governments of Australia and Indonesia agreed to undertake a new program of technical and vocational assistance that builds on lessons learned from previous projects. The approach adopted ensures that Australian assistance is both responsive to Indonesia's changing needs and cost effective.

Description of Goals/Objectives

The goal of the Indonesia Australia Partnership for Skills Development (IAPSD) program is to improve the capacity of public and private sector agencies to improve workforce skills in selected industries and provinces. This will be done by strengthening the capacity of government agencies and industry associations with responsibility for planning and delivering competency-based training, relevant to the needs of Indonesian industry. This will be achieved by planning and providing training across a range of industries based on:

  • well-defined occupational standards;
  • high-quality teaching methods and learning materials;
  • reliable assessment and certification of competencies.

Project components include the development and trialing of standards, learning materials and assessment (SLM and A) packages and institutional development on a number of locations.

Travel and Tourism (January 2000 – July 2002); Hotel and Restaurant (January 2000 – July 2002); Metals (May 2000 – November 2002); Automotive (May 2000 – November 2002); Batam Institutional Development (January 2000 – July 2003); Laboratory Operations (August 2001 – September 2003); West Java Institutional Development Project (November 2000 – May 2004) and Makassar Tourism Training Project (February 2001 – February 2005).
