The project builds on other Australian-supported health projects in eastern Indonesia, including the Women and their Children’s Health (WATCH) Project in Irian Jaya (now Papua), the Lombok Model Hepatitis B Immunisation Project, and in particular the Healthy Start for Child Survival Project in Lombok, Bali and Sumbawa.
The goal of the project is to strengthen and support the delivery of primary health care services for women and children in selected areas of Southeast Sulawesi province, particularly in Konawe and South Konawe districts. This is to be achieved, wherever possible, by supporting and strengthening existing activities and by close integration with Indonesian Department of Health programs, including those supported by other donors. The current extension will consolidate implementation of the main interventions in order to bring about a sustained improvement in the delivery of health services.
