Civil Society Organisation (CSO) – Interim Fund (Completed)

Given the rapidly growing demand for assistance by Indonesian CSOs, AusAID is implementing an interim phase of assistance in the lead up to implementation of the ACCESS program. The purpose of this Interim CSO Assistance Scheme is to provide immediate assistance in a fast-growing area of need amongst CSOs. The Scheme will also provide AusAID with an information base for ACCESS through:

  • developing relationships between AusAID and key CSOs, including government agencies involved in the civil governance agenda;
  • gathering information, resources and knowledge on key civil governance issues and programs ; and
  • supporting Indonesian CSO programs through modest financial support.

Priority Areas for Interim Assistance

The Interim CSO Assistance Scheme will focus assistance for priority issues identified through the February 2000 AusAID Governance Mission that have not been supported by other program facilities, ie:

  • democracy initiatives, including civic education
  • counter corruption
  • human rights
  • legal reform
  • gender equity and womens' empowerment
  • local governance, including civil society participation in the decentralisation process, and
  • professionalism and accountability within the CSO sector.

These priorities are likely to form the themes of the ACCESS scheme. They will be reviewed annually by AusAID during implementation of ACCESS.
